GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

The Graduate Diploma in Hospitality Management (GDHM) is designed for graduates of a bachelor’s degree or similar qualification in a discipline other than hospitality management who wish to gain the knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the hospitality sector.

Internship Placements

As part of the programme students are required to work for at least 240 hours in a hospitality establishment to gain practical knowledge and experience in planning and production, dealing with customers, risk assessment, and planning the implementation of operations for daily events.

Internship placements are coordinated via the Student Careers Centre (SCC) and are available at the following hospitality establishments:

• Hilton Hotels

• Rydges Hotels

• The Langham Hotels

• SkyCity

• SkyCity Grand Hotel

• Pullman Hotels

• Accor Hotels

• Millenium Hotels

• Showcase Hospitality

• Good Group Hospitality

Students are required to keep a detailed log of their experiences and provide a systematic analytical framework for recording and analysing their observations.

3 semesters full-time

Semester 3, 2016 - 12 September  to 16 December
Between Semester Break - 17 December 2016 to 30 January 2017

Semester 1, 2017 - 31 January to 5 May
Between Semester Break - 6 May to 21 May

Semester 2, 2017 - 22 May to 25 August 
Between Semester Break - 26 August to 10 September 

Semester 3, 2017 - 11 September  to 15 December
 
Entry Requirements

• Bachelor degree at least equivalent to New Zealand pass standard; and

• IELTS 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5 / TOEFL iBT 60 (with a writing score of 20) / Pearson 50 / TEP 52 or equivalent with no band less than 12

• Candidates without a Bachelor degree but with an appropriate mix of a lesser qualification and work experience may be approved for special admission by the Academic Board
